Inserting a large chest tube can be a risky procedure with a danger of damaging lung tissue or placing the tube at the wrong angle. The task was to create a guiding tool that ensures correct insertion depth and direction - without compromising patient safety.

Our role
Made By Makers handled the industrial design and ergonomic shaping. The focus was on developing an intuitive, handheld tool with clear visual and tactile feedback, giving the surgeon full control throughout the procedure.
Process
We focused on grip comfort, control, and built-in safety features. The design features an ergonomic handle where the angle indicates the direction of the tube inside the pleural cavity. Models, 3D printing, and testing were a major part of the process.
Result
The Pleuratech KatGuide combines medical precision and ergonomic functionality into a safe, user-friendly single-use tool. It ensures controlled and gentle insertion of chest tubes, minimizing the risk of tissue damage and streamlining the workflow for healthcare staff.
